Buzz Bissinger has become a notable sports writer in America

Buzz Bissinger has become a notable sports writer in America due in large part to his Friday Night Lights. (The television adaptation of the show will have its final season aired on NBC starting soon.) Perhaps the bright lights of high school football have blinded the author into a misunderstanding of how Sundays work in golf.Bissinger, writing for The Daily Beast, penned a brief essay entitled “Tiger Woods is never coming back.” In it, Bissinger says the Tiger Woods Teaches Korean Youth Golfers front nine charge by Tiger Woods on Sunday at the Masters – a charge I was witness to – was a mere mirage of the old Woods, presented falsely to observers of the game as an indication of imminent brilliance from the beleaguered golfer. But the moment on Sunday did not last, and there was an inevitability to that. Since he crashed his car on Nov. 27, 2009, outside his home in Orlando, and the subsequent revelations that he had been on the bimbo tour with even more intensity than the PGA golf tour, he has never been the same.Plain and simple, the guy was fading long before a whole lot of people who didn’t know any better had their hearts broken for thinking Tiger was more American than apple pie and more pure than fresh snow. And the lessons he is going through to perhaps – key word, perhaps – regain some measure of what he lost thanks to Father Time, knee surgeries galore, YE Yang and a failed marriage, will take a while to sink in and stick.
